De Gud Farm

Barry and Lorraine Good

Good by Name. Good by Nature.

De Gud is the Irish-language form of our family surname, Good. The Good family has been farming in County Cork for nearly 400 years, with this farm in our hands since 1963.

Rooted in heritage and farming, while looking to the future through sustainability, biodiversity and community.

De Gud Farm is home to Barry Good, an award-winning barley producer and farmer, and Lorraine Hogan, an award-winning multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker. Both Barry and Lorraine have been individually recognised with a Cork Pride Award for their contribution to their local communities. Together, we are continuing a family farming tradition that stretches back almost 400 years, while exploring innovative ways to care for the land and contribute to our community.

We grow hay, beans, winter wheat and spring barley, including malting barley supplied to the Malting Company of Ireland. Eight acres of the farm are dedicated to wildflower and wild bird cover, while hundreds of mature native trees, including Scots pine, oak, ash and hawthorn, line our fields and laneways. New trees are planted every year.

Our Pillars

Farming

We are committed to responsible farming and protecting the land for future generations. As a demonstration farm for the Arable Coastal Programme, we are exploring practical approaches to farming with nature while continuing to award winning Barley.

Biodiversity

We actively create and protect habitats across the farm, from wildflower and wild bird cover to mature trees, hedgerows and new planting, helping wildlife thrive alongside productive farmland.

Heritage

Our farm carries generations of family history. We value and protect its traditional buildings, landscape and character, including the restoration of our historic stone barn.

Wellness

We are developing a future farm wellness experience, creating a space where people can slow down, reconnect with nature and enjoy time away from the pace of everyday life.
